When packing for camp this summer, consider reef-safe sunscreen options to protect both your camper’s skin and the environment. Traditional sunscreens often contain harmful chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which can damage marine life and coral reefs. Reef-safe sunscreens are free of these chemicals and use mineral-based ingredients, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, to provide effective protection without harming ocean ecosystems. We at Aloha Beach Camp are dedicated to protecting sustainable choices and actions that preserve marine life and marine life and coastal ecosystems for future generations.
Some great reef-safe options include Badger Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF 30, All Good Sport Sunscreen SPF 30, and Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. These sunscreens offer broad-spectrum protection, are water-resistant, and are gentle on sensitive skin. By choosing reef-safe sunscreen, you’re helping to protect coral reefs while ensuring your camper stays safe in the sun. While free transportation to and from Zuma Beach is offered all over the city of Los Angeles, many parents elect to drop their campers off at the beach in the morning, and pick them up in the afternoon. Because this has become a popular option for parents over the last few summers, I think it is important to provide some suggestions for families after the day's conclusion.
Malibu is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon with the whole family with countless restaurants and treats in very close vicinity to Zuma. One of our all time favorites is Malibu Seafood. This beachside lunch/dinner spot is great for an afternoon picnic with the family as they have outside seating overlooking the ocean. They offer amazing dishes like lobster rolls and coconut shrimp, with their house specialty being their fish and chips. This is the perfect post camp pick-me-up and we couldn’t recommend it enough. Sometimes after camp, you just need a tasty treat. This is why Malibu Yogurt & Ice Cream is a real winner. Located just a few miles down PCH from Zuma Beach, this surf-themed dessert spot offers delicious ice cream and frozen yogurt at an affordable price. One of our favorite tips would be to get the nutella frozen yogurt and add strawberries as a topping. It doesn’t get much better than that! One final activity that we would suggest to families is to take a trip down to Malibu Country Mart. This small outdoor shopping center is home to several delicious restaurants and fun places to go shopping. They also do have a play center right in the middle for the little ones! Our favorite place to eat here is Howdy’s. It is a casual dining spot that offers sushi and other kinds of seafood. Pro tip: order the sushi burrito! Malibu is a laid back but vibrant town that is filled with activities for not only parents but the whole family. A camper’s day doesn’t have to end when you pick them up from the beach, and hopefully some of these suggestions help you spend your time in Malibu the best way you possibly can! It’s no secret that Aloha Beach Camp offers a variety of different activities each and every day at camp. With almost no activities repeating itself throughout the summer, every day offers an exciting new experience to every camper in attendance.
When your camper comes to Aloha Beach Camp, they will participate in activities and games that they never have before. Just a handful of our very favorites are: hurricane popcorn, tropical fruit tasting, cosmic water slide, homerun derby, beach ball bonanza, seashell jewelry and water rockets. These are just a FEW of the dozens and dozens of activities we offer at Aloha Beach Camp with more always being added to the schedule! These are just some of our on-the-sand activities, with our aquatic based activities being the ones that we’re really famous for. Surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are the backbone of our program and every camper is sure to fall in love with the ocean because of them! These varied activities ensure that every camper finds something to enjoy, making Aloha Beach Camp a destination for adventure, creativity, and unforgettable summer memories.
