A number of things! And we think the best way to explain them is through several different blog posts over the next few weeks.
Our philosophy is this: Our counselors will always ENCOURAGE kids to try new activities and enjoy camp to the fullest. But we will never push or force a camper to do anything they're uncomfortable with. It's up to your child as to when and if they want to participate in the beach camp activities. But we will do our best to get them to try!

Every year we make a new summer fun video for the upcoming day camp season. Check out our 2020 summer fun video here. Keeping kids safe, comfortable and having fun in the ocean is a staple of Aloha Beach Camp's program. We have 100% safety record and intend to keep it that way. One of the primary elements of our beach camp safety program is limiting how deep we allow kids to swim in the water. No child is permitted to go deeper than their waist with their feet firmly touching the ocean floor. As you can see from the photo above, kids can walk out plenty far from the sand and still remain at waist-depth in the ocean. This is one on the top reasons we've chosen Zuma Beach to run our program. Campers can go out pretty far in the water but the ocean doesn't get too deep.
If your child loves the beach and has always wanted to learn to surf, Aloha Beach Camp's L.A. surf camp is just the ticket for them this summer. No matter if your child is an experienced surfer, just starting out, or has never surfed before, our surf camp program is for you. Campers learn to surf on the sand in a group lesson. Then, whenever they feel ready, enter the ocean with their counselor for a personalized one-on-one surfing lesson in calm gentle waves and progress from there. Our staff will be by your child's side the entire time. Your camper will come home with a huge smile on their face, beaming with pride as they tell you how much fun they had surfing and they even stood up on their surfboard the very first time they tried! You can't beat surfing's heath benefits, either. It's a safe, fun and healthy physical outdoor activity for kids. Try Aloha Beach Camp this summer! Last summer (2019) we introduced a new activity at Aloha Beach Camp which become an instant hit with the campers: Stand-up Paddleboarding. So many kids asked for more of this activity that we've decided to triple up on the fun this year. Last summer we only offered on stand-up paddleboarding day. This summer (2020) campers can enjoy three separate stand-up paddleboarding days at camp! Stand-up Paddleboarding takes place at Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. It's easy and takes place in calm water with no waves. Our counselors are in the water too, on kayaks, provide assistance to any camper who needs it. You can even do this activity on your knees! By now you might be wondering how your child will get to Oxnard so they can participate. Aloha Beach Camp provides free transportation for every child, so don't worry, you don't have drive your son or daughter all the way to camp yourself! Thursday, July 30 is now on the schedule for the stand-up paddleboard activity. We haven't identified the other two days, but we promise we'll have them soon.
Meanwhile, you can sign up here for the July 30 stand-up paddleboarding day if you don't want to wait! |
