Discover the New Up and Coming Summer Camp Trends For Summer 2024
Summer camp is different than it used to be. The traditional concept of camp, which conjures up images of sitting around the campfire signing songs and doing skits with fellow campers and camp counselors will never go away. But the camp industry is evolving...fast.
Traditional camp activities like shooting bows and arrows, horseback riding, and nature walks are giving way to various new and unique camps and camp activities like surf camps at the beach, acting camps, cooking camps, computer camps and many more new and camp concepts to meet the needs of today's youth.
"The traditional camp experience of roasting marshmallows around the campfire is important and here to stay," notes Theresa Torrone, a camp director in Los Angeles. "But if your child wants to learn to surf, or go to a dramatic arts camp or a language camp, these opportunities are available for you. They're the new trend in summer camps, and they’re growing like wildfire."

Torrone noted the proliferation of specialty camps in recent years. "Specialty camps are the fastest growing segment in the summer camp industry as a whole," she said.
Even though Torrone runs her own day camp that teaches kids and teens how to surf, she's following the popular trend of sending her own kids to a specialty tennis camp this summer "and an ice skating camp, too," she says, showing even further how popular specialty camps have become.
"All these cool camp ideas didn't even exist a few years ago," Torrone says. "But now they're everywhere, they're a whole lot of fun and they're certainly not going away.
