Aloha Beach Camp CIT Program Summer 2024 - Overview
FAQ's
We are pleased to announce Aloha Beach Camp’s new CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program for summer 2024! Our CIT campers will be called our Laulima group.
“Laulima” is a Hawaiian word that means cooperation, joint action, a group of people working together, community food patch, to work together, and cooperate. The program is designed for teens ages 14 - 16.
The Laulima group experience is divided into three distinct levels, each designed to provide your teen with hands-on experience working with young children, developing leadership skills, gaining self-confidence, and learning to work as part of a team.
LEVEL 1: EKAHI (the Hawaiian numeral for "one") for 1st Year CITs
This foundational level welcomes all first-year CITs to a vibrant community with a minimum commitment of one week, focusing on introductory child management and teamwork skills. All first year CITs will be enrolled in this level.
LEVEL 2: ELUA (meaning "two" in Hawaiian) for 2nd Year CITs
Designed for second-year CITs, this level builds on the foundational skills with a minimum two-week commitment, allowing for enhanced responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
EKOLU (translating to "three," slated for launch in Summer 2025)
This capstone tier is reserved for third-year CITs, demanding a four-week dedication, culminating in a three-day off-site leadership retreat. This intensive program is crafted to refine the skills required for excellence in camp counseling and leadership roles.
Upon successful completion of all three program levels, participants will be rewarded with more than just invaluable experience – they will receive an automatic job offer to join Aloha Beach Camp Day Camp as a paid employee.

CIT Program FAQ’s
Who is eligible to apply for this program?
For now we are only extending this program to campers who have already attended Aloha Beach Camp in a previous summer. Since space for this program is extremely limited, we want to provide this opportunity to our own camp families first so they can enjoy this high-quality, enriching experience.
When are the sessions?
CIT’s must be able to commit to a minimum of one week Monday - Friday as a first year CIT, and a minimum of two weeks Monday - Friday as a second year CIT. You may enroll for as many sessions as you’d like
What will a CIT’s day and week look like?
CIT’s will ride on the bus just like a regular camper. During the bus ride, they will assist the bus leaders with bus activities like games and songs. Upon arrival at camp, they will meet with their group counselors. Each morning will consist of training and learning opportunities. The middle part of the day will be spent working with campers of varying ages and the end of each day will provide time for CIT’s to spend time with their group participating in camp activities and fun team building activities. Each week will have a progression of workshops, training, and hands-on experiences leading up to a “culmination” each Friday. For CIT’s attending multiple sessions, the curriculum and hands-on opportunities will advance each week.
What training will CITs receive?
Prior to the start of summer, we will offer all CITs a course in Red Cross First Aid and CPR. This will be provided at no cost to you. CITs will receive daily training from directors and senior staff members as well as guest speakers.
Why should I choose your program for my teen?
In recent years, we've recognized an evolving need for a program that transcends the usual confines of day camp, especially for young teens navigating the complexities of a post-Covid environment. We've seen that teens are increasingly tethered to their digital devices, and as a result, the art of connecting and mentoring younger children has become a rare skill. Our program is thoughtfully designed to steer teens away from screens and into real-life interactions, placing them in counselor-in-training roles where they can guide and inspire younger campers.
By participating in our program, teens will not only develop valuable leadership and teamwork skills, but they will also gain hands-on experience in a mentoring capacity, fostering growth, confidence, and camaraderie among children. This immersive experience will not only prime them for potential paid positions at our camp but will also provide them with a robust portfolio of experiences and glowing references for their college applications. It's an investment in their personal and professional growth, setting a foundation for lifelong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
How much does each session cost?
Each 1-week session is $499 with a 10% discount for each additional session. CIT tuition must be paid in full with your application as space is extremely limited.
Sounds great; how do we sign up?
CIT application forms will be ready next week. We are currently forming a priority enrollment list since we anticipate the program selling out without being able to accommodate all applicants. Enter your name and email in the form below to let us know you want early access to the application. We'll send it early next week.
